A Fragrant Addiction
Conor James MacDonald is a multimedia artist living and working in the Republic of Ireland

A Fragrant Addiction is a new body of work where Conor slices and dissects sources found in and amongst the detritus of the studio floor

Working through a variety of mediums - MacDonald’s is happy to have returned to his original love of drawing

while embracing the encounter of accidental images, objects and text, based in the mundane of the everyday

MacDonald is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art graduating in 2016 from the internationally renowned Sculpture & Environmental Art Department

In September 2016, MacDonald was selected by Aesthetica Magazine as one of the Top 100 International Contemporary Artists working today

Conor invites the awareness of ‘not knowing’ aiming for a point of synthesis to emerge between the artist’s mind and the developing form

at it’s core the floor of the studio is a domain ripe for cultivation, raking through seeds of thought allowing for new questions to emerge

employing the techniques of Cortazar, Conor likes to work on multiple drawings simultaneously, inviting a breakdown of meaning with the intent of questioning cultural notions within a framework of art history

as the history of Art is constantly in flux we must employ a process similar to the ploughing of a field, we must continue to question the role of a debatable art history

investigating reoccurring themes of human emotion, these images question notions of life, death, love and sex

through the universal language of collage and the hand made he explores ideas of addiction and the conflicting tensions present in everyday life

influenced by the DIY aesthetic of the punk movement MacDonald looks to ape it’s inexpensive model of quick and immediate distribution through limited means… tangentially - a limited edition print run will soon be available in theMuppetPuppet online store
